Paul loves business, competition, leadership and the pursuit of smart growth. With a background in business, public relations and advertising, he brings a unique combination of strategic insight and influence savvy to his craft. He is a persistent and encouraging executive coach who inspires leaders to pursue their aspirations with courage. And, Paul is a talented facilitator who energizes executive teams. He understands how leaders effectively shape vision and strategy and rally their organizations to achieve goals.
Paul’s favorite work involves leveraging the state of the art leadership strategies used in the large corporations for the benefit of emerging and maturing growth companies. He enjoys guiding leaders through transformational change efforts, succession planning and preparing successors to take the reins. He is particularly adept at improving the communication effectiveness of emerging leaders.
Paul is an accomplished professional speaker and author. His first book, “Inspire Persuade Lead: Communication Secrets of Excellent Leaders,” is in the third printing. He is a co-author of the book “Leadership Matters – the 13 Roles of High Performance Leaders” and a contributor to “Conversations on Leadership,” a book project of 17 national leaders, speakers and authors.
Paul honed his consulting approach over 20 years of business development and strategy development in three professional service firms – working with executive teams and leaders in Fortune 100 companies, mid-sized and emerging businesses. Paul joined MDA in 2001 and in 2004 became an owner of the firm. Prior to MDA, he was a partner with the national public relations firm Padilla Speer Beardsley.
Paul is deeply connected to the Twin Cities community. He served 10 years as a leader on the board of directors of Lutheran Social Service (LSS) of Minnesota, one of America’s most powerful and influential non-profit social service organizations. As board chair of LSS, he launched the Movement of Hope capital campaign that built the Center for Changing Lives, the $27 million LSS service center. He is a member and former board member of the Minnesota Association for Corporate Growth, an 18-year Rotarian, and currently the leadership liaison of the City of Lakes Rotary board of directors. He has directed the youth choir in his church for 16 years. The Greater Twin Cities United Way chose Paul as an executive series speaker and he was nominated by The Business Journal as one of the 100 Unsung Heroes of Corporate Philanthropy in Minneapolis.
Paul is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, cum laude. He is a devoted father and husband, a church choir director, hopelessly addicted golfer and a piano-playing Elton John fan.
